A simple idea with a powerful impact
What started as a spontaneous idea last December took us completely by surprise at Wildlife Fruits, as the overwhelming demand exceeded all our expectations. We discovered that wildflower seed paper could be printed on, which sparked the creation of a new campaign: a tree adoption wildflower seed voucher for our reforestation area in Costa Rica.
This unique voucher is printed on plantable seed paper, allowing recipients to sow it in their gardens in spring or summer—where it will hopefully blossom into a beautiful wildflower meadow.
Wildlife Fruits introduced the campaign to deepen the connection between donors and the trees they were funding. For every tree adopted, participants would not only receive our well-established package, which includes a certificate, a personalized name stone, and the planting of a tree seedling. They would also receive a biodegradable seed paper infused with native wildflower seeds.
The idea was simple: while their tree was growing in Costa Rica, they could also contribute to biodiversity in their own backyard whether that was in Europe, North America, or elsewhere.
From Costa Rica to your backyard: a blooming biodiversity connection
Biodiversity is the foundation of a healthy ecosystem, and wildflowers play a vital role in maintaining and restoring it. These vibrant, seemingly delicate plants are, in fact, powerful allies in reforestation and habitat regeneration.
Wildflowers attract and support pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and birds—species essential for plant reproduction and food chain stability. Without them, entire ecosystems can collapse. By providing nectar, shelter, and breeding grounds, wildflowers sustain countless insects, which in turn nourish larger wildlife, creating a thriving, interconnected web of life.
Beyond supporting pollinators, wildflower meadows enhance soil health, prevent erosion, and increase carbon capture. Their deep root systems improve soil structure, allowing water to penetrate more efficiently, reducing the risk of drought and flooding. In degraded areas where forests are being restored, wildflowers also act as nature’s first responders, preparing the ground for the return of trees and a more complex ecosystem.
Thanks to our unique tree adoption vouchers printed on plantable seed paper, you contribute to biodiversity in a special way. Reforestation isn’t just about trees—it’s about life in all its forms.
Together, we’re cultivating a future where nature thrives—both in Costa Rica and in your own backyard.
Seed paper vouchers taking root faster than expected
To our surprise, many sponsors didn’t want to wait until the next planting season in May/June, when the rainy season returns. Instead, they chose to sponsor trees that had already been planted during the last rainy season (June–August 2024) but had yet to find an adopter.
A wonderful example is Hannah from Germany. She first adopted a tree as a gift for a friend. Shortly after, her friend returned the gesture by adopting one for her. When Hannah’s mother heard about it, she was inspired to join in and sponsor a tree as well!
Hannah shared her experience with us:
“Wildlife Fruits is an amazing project for reforestation and the preservation of one of the world’s richest biodiversities. I gifted a tree adoption for Christmas, but the project is also great for offsetting emissions or simply fulfilling the ‘plant a tree’ bucket list goal. The team was incredibly friendly, the planting was carried out quickly, and I received my certificate in no time. Huge thanks to the team!”
Charly from Austria already adopted a tree before, but was hooked with the Wildflower Seed Paper: “I’ve known Hannes for several years. Last year we met again after a long time. We talked about his reforestation project in Costa Rica. I was immediately enthusiastic about his plans. A short time later, I ordered a Monkey Apple Tree from Hannes. The ordering process was very easy.
Before Christmas, I adopted another tree for my girlfriend. I received a voucher with wildflower seeds inside. A really nice idea. Hannes sent me three photos of the tree. I used these to make a poster collage. I put them in a picture frame. My girlfriend was really pleased with it. It’s a Christmas present that not many people have and when you consider that you’re doing something good for nature. Hannes does this work with a lot of heart and soul!!! I would also like to say that these are certainly not the last trees I will have planted. I will order more, for example for birthdays and so on. Maybe I can have a look at the trees myself and get a personal impression of his work. He would have invited me already. Finally, I would like to say that you should definitely support his project!”
Why the success?
As our team reflected on the campaign, we realized several key factors contributed to its success.
- Tangible Impact. People loved the idea of contributing to nature in two places at once: one tree planted in Costa Rica, and flowers blooming in their home country. It made their support feel personal and interactive.
- Social Media Buzz. Adopters shared photo updates about their adopted trees, creating organic promotion that reached a much wider audience to encourage friends and family to participate.
- A feel good story. In a world where environmental news can often feel overwhelming, this initiative provided a hopeful, hands-on way for people to make a difference.
But most of all:
The eco-friendly gift appeal. The wildflower seed paper turned out to be a perfect sustainable gift warming the hearts of their loved ones.
A gift that grows beyond materialism
In a world where fast fashion, next-day deliveries, and overflowing shopping carts have become the norm, many of us are starting to feel a deep disconnect. We live in a society that encourages us to buy more, own more, and chase after things that often bring only fleeting joy. Yet, beneath the surface, something is shifting. More and more people are searching for meaning beyond material possessions, seeking ways to act consciously, live sustainably, and reconnect with nature.
One simple yet powerful way to do this is by adopting a tree as a gift. It’s more than just a present— it’s a statement, a symbol of hope, and a lasting impact on the planet.
Breaking free from the cycle of excess has become important for many people. We’ve all been there: struggling to find the perfect gift, only to settle for something that will likely end up forgotten in a drawer or tossed aside after a short while. The reality is that many traditional gifts contribute to consumer waste, excessive packaging, and environmental damage.
A tree adoption, on the other hand, offers something completely different. It’s not just a one-time joy —it’s a living, breathing contribution to a healthier planet. Instead of cluttering someone’s home with more “stuff,” you’re giving them something that will grow for years, capturing carbon, providing habitat for wildlife, and restoring ecosystems.
The message behind your gift
There’s something profoundly beautiful about gifting a tree. It carries a message that goes beyond
words:
- A gift of commitment – It’s a promise to protect and nurture our planet.
- A gift of longevity – While other presents fade, a tree will keep growing and thriving.
- A gift of connection – It ties the recipient to something bigger than themselves, a living piece of nature they can feel proud of.
In a time when many people feel disconnected from the natural world, receiving a tree adoption fosters a renewed sense of belonging—an understanding that their actions matter and that they are part of something much larger.
Adopting a tree isn’t just about avoiding materialism; it’s about actively shaping a better future. More and more people are looking for ways to be responsible consumers, to make choices that align with their values. A tree adoption gift reflects this mindset—it’s ethical, sustainable, and deeply personal.
Beyond the promotion: a lasting effect
The unexpected success of this campaign has inspired Wildlife Fruits to continue promoting the wild flower seed voucher campaign. Many participants who initially adopted just one tree returned to fund more as adopting a tree in Costa Rica was the perfect gift for a loved one.
This initiative is a reminder that conservation efforts do not have to be limited by borders. Whether in the lush rain and dry forests of Costa Rica or in a backyard in Belgium, every tree, every flower, and every small action counts.
🌿 Adopt a tree today, and give the gift of a greener future.
At our reforestation project in Costa Rica, each adopted tree is planted with care, becoming part of a larger ecosystem restoration effort. Those who adopt receive updates on the growth of their tree, knowing they are making a real difference. And for those who want to bring a touch of nature into their own homes, our plantable wildflower seed vouchers offer a way to grow beauty and biodiversity right in their backyard.
